Woods

I’m not so big on indie or rock music. However, Woods is the standout song released on the Blood Bank EP by Bon Iver this January. Dropping all guitars and instruments, Woods is multi layers of R&B a cappella sprinkled with autotune. Sorry, Kanye, this is the new Cher.

According to wiki, the name, Bon Iver, is a corruption of the French “bon hiver” (good winter), or a misspelling of “bon ivre” (good Drunk). Sounds like another hit.

Now, I’m waiting for a slamming deep house remix.

I’m up in the woods
I’m down on my mind
I’m building a still
To slow down the time

Justin Vernon, folk, breakup, band, relationship, Wisconsin, remote cabin, isolation, album, EP, Billboard, iTunes, top ten.

Glowns

The colourful picture of Kanye and his entourage at Paris fashion week was shot by Torontonian Tommy Ton.

Now Kanye’s hairdresser has blogged about their trip to Paris, complaining about people calling them gay & clowns. In the first paragraph, he has to make sure that no one is gay or a clown. Really?

I don’t get it. Who doesn’t want to be a hot glown?
Nothing better than that.

Kanye & Entourage: Glowns?

Do You Believe In Life After Love?

Surprise: I’m a little bit in love with Kanye, again.

It's a Love Lockdown

Of course, it all started when he sang his new single, Love Lockdown at the MTV Awards. Then he posted the song on his blog, then yesterday, a new version. Update: Now on iTunes.

After listening to the song on repeat, I found the above picture of ‘Ye at New York fashion week on Laura’s blog. How could I have not fallen for a sad puppy?

I can feel something inside me say
I really don’t think you’re strong enough

One question remains: Is Kanye the new Cher?
At least, he has to be the new Queen of Auto-Tune. There is lots of hope that his new album, tentatively titled 808’s & Heartbreak (out December 16), has lots of filters on his singing voice. Rumor has it the raps are gone.

Where is the cute college bear?!

Drop It Like A Hot Potato

The Overpowered album by Roisin Murphy was finally released this week. A special limited edition double coloured LP is going to follow in November. It’s the pop-dance-electro-disco (whatever you want to call it) album for fall. My favourite song seems to change every other day, right now it is Body Language, which you can not listen to here but here.

  1. Aaron-Carl and DJ E. Dubb – The Door (Original Mix) – Wallshaker
There is nothing better than an angry Aaron-Carl song.
“I don’t want you no more. Pack your shit. Here’s the door.”
  2. Jill Scott – Hate On Me (Shelter Vocal) – Restricted Access
Remixed by Quentin Harris. I’m always in on hater lyrics.
  3. Chuck Love – Beatdown (Jimpster Mix) – OM
If you can’t get enough of the forward pushing Jimpster sound, I suggest his remix of 400 Years by Bob Marley and the Wailers. Trippin’.
  4. Kanye West feat. Dwele – Flashing Lights – Roc-A-Fella
I still love the synth stabs on this one so much. It is the next single off Graduation. Is this the first time paparazzi is rhymed with Nazi?
“Till I get flashed by the paparazzi
    Damn, these nigga’s got me,
I hate these nigga’s more than the Nazis”
  5. Moodymann – I’d Rather Be Lonely – KDJ
  6. Grand High Priest – Long Time Coming (GHP Vocal) – Re-House
Remix of A Change Is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke.
  7. Veronique – Use Me (Sunday Morning Dub, Afterhours Mix) – Wallshaker
Another stompin’ AC production. The dub is quite peak hour, for later or earlier, there is the Afterhours Mix.
  8. Marlon D – Jesus Creates Sound (Main Mix) – Strictly Rhythm
Don’t you love the cheesy “This is a journey into sound” sample, the hi-hats and cymbal clashes?
  9. Yass – He Reigns (Main) – Purple Music
    Gospel in da house.
  10. Marvin Gaye – Music (Karizma Remix) – Rotgut Records
